Strong Show of Support Reflects Surge in Interest

Canberra, Tuesday 27th September … An excellent turnout of new and old NHW members was matched once again by the attendance of a dozen senior Officers of ACT Policing at the 2011 ACT Neighbourhood Watch Annual General Meeting and Awards presentation evening last Tuesday. ACT NHW Deputy President  Graeme Hush suggested that the energy in the room could genuinely reflect the ongoing surge of interest in NHW.  "In the last 12 months, ACT NHW has increased by twenty new or revitalized groups across the Territory, but we are all very aware that there is still much to do" he said.

Guest Speaker, Superintendent Kylie Flower, seen pictured here, echoed this sentiment as she shared her perspectives on 12 months of positive achievements. CPO Roman Quaedvlieg presented this year’s ACT NHW Chief Police Officer’s Award to Sergeant Bob Muir and ACT NHW President Margaret Pearson presented the NHW Member of the Year Award to two recipients, Mr Bruce Kennedy and Mrs Jeanette Logan. All three awardees were acclaimed by all present as very worthy winners. The evening also celebrated the efforts of two retiring Board of Management members, David Ault and Lex Clark and honoured their service with special recognition awards.

President Margaret Pearson presented her report , the audited financials were received and the new Executive and Board of Management was welcomed, including Margaret herself for another 12 months, in a very efficiently facilitated AGM.

Mrs Christine Coulthard OAM ensured that the evening was well resourced and presented as always and members enjoyed catching up and exchanging stories and good ideas over a tasty bite or two.  Ainslie Football Club once again provided the venue, whilst the ACT NHW Board decided this year to bring the time of the event forward to 6pm and add light refreshments which seemed to be an idea well received.

The 2011 AGM highlighted the relative healthy state that ACT NHW finds itself in and as such the Board will hold a future think tank forum on October 6th, looking to review the current strategic plan and implement an updated one.

Thanks to everyone who helped make this year's AGM and Awards night such a success.
