The Big Bee is a community project to get groups of people together to help clean up and work on the backyards of people they know who have difficulty doing it themselves - the elderly, single parents, the disabled, people who live on their own, someone who's ill, or who just needs a hand. The aim is to connect people so they can enjoy each other’s company, work together, have fun and do something for their community. There could be two or three families, groups of friends, neighbours, team mates or work colleagues, working together to connect, have fun and do something worthwhile.

of ‘The Big Bee’ to advertise this event as widely as possible through our NHW network. This is not a prescribed Neighbourhood Watch activity but it is certainly within our charter and another example of the way in which you can connect with your neighbours and help foster a spirit of community,” ACT NHW President Margaret Pearson said yesterday.
Being involved with “The Big Bee” is as simple as spending a couple of hours weeding or mulching or cleaning up the backyard. Many hands make light work, and it’s amazing how much can be achieved, and how much fun can be had when people work together. Finish with a cuppa or a barbie – so it’s Backyards, working Bee and maybe a Barbie – the Big Bee. You are being asked to get together a group of friends, families or neighbours, team mates and colleagues and work on the backyard of someone they know who needs help.
The first ever Big Bee is on the last weekend of Spring – 26-27 November 2011 – and people can register by going to The Big Bee web site OR Facebook page or by emailing
