As you’ll recall from our previous update, on Monday 10th October 2011, Minister Brendan O’Connor announced $1.5 million in funding under the Proceeds of Crime Act for Neighbourhood Watch Australasia.
A ‘proportion’ of this funding is awarded to help Neighbourhood Watch groups continue to engage and strengthen local communities, promote the exchange of information and further build partnerships between the police, local communities and government; enabling safer and vibrant communities.
Neighbourhood Watch Australasia is currently working with its Strategic Partners and the Attorney General’s Department to develop a ‘NHWA Community Funding Program’. It is anticipated that the NHWA Community Funding Program process will become available in the first quarter of 2012.
Earlier in the month, NHWA President Steve Batterham took great pleasure in announcing the appointment by the NHWA Executive of founding board member and administrator Ingrid Stonhill to the position of National Manager, NHWA initially on an interim basis to manage the federal government funding agreement and to transition our organisation structures into a fully funded not for profit community based organisation.
Ingrid brings a wealth of knowledge and understanding re: NHWA alongside extensive experience in local government, federal government and non government agencies to the table, especially in the areas of community development, crime prevention and community engagement - within the voluntary, policing and government sectors.
Ingrid previously held the position of inaugural National Manager of Neighbourhood Support New Zealand and managed their organisation through a parallel process and so we are all very excited about Ingrid’s appointment and look forward to supporting her and working together through the challenges ahead.
For more information about this or the community funding programme process, please continue to check the NHWA website for information updates. We’ll also do our best to keep you apprised.
